What an exciting year of development for our U10s girls this season!

At the start of the season, there were not quite enough girls to field a team. By December 2023 we just about scraped a team together and competed in our first tournament. The girls absolutely loved the experience, winning 2 games and playing some fantastic hockey!

The deluded among us, began to dream of qualification for the Midlands finals… This certainly had its challenges!

Four days before the qualifying (Staffs County Cup) tournament earlier this month, we didn’t have a Goalkeeper. Yet again, we faced the prospect of insufficient numbers to field a team. We scouted resourcefully and recruited the GK from one of our girl’s football teams. Although she had never played hockey in her life, after a 30-minute crash-course before the first match on the day she was ready!

The whole team (especially our new keeper) made us proud! The girls worked so hard for each other and displayed some fantastic skills. They thoroughly deserved their place in the Midlands finals, and were runners up on the day, to Leek, who only beat us by 1 goal.

Well, you can’t beat the smiles they had on their faces receiving their medals… and now we have the Midlands Finals to look forward to in April.

We are always looking to share our successes with new teammates, so if you know of any girls that are interested in giving hockey a go and making some new friends - please get in touch!
