On Sunday 4th May, North Stafford Hockey Club Men's 2s travel to Lee Valley to play the University of Nottignham in the England Hockey Tier 4 Cup Final.
Victories in each of the five rounds to date have seen North Stafford 2s reach the final, in a memorable season which has already seen them promoted as champions of Midlands 6NW.
Three first half goals saw North Stafford ease through the first round with a 3-0 win over Triton, whilst the 2s beat Runcorn 3-1 in round two. A major test awaited in the third round, as they hosted table-topping Towcester 1s. Towcester, Champions of Midlands 6SE, held a 1-0 lead at half time. The visitors tired after the interval as the strength and depth of the North Stafford squad saw the side progress through to the quarter finals with a 2-1 win.
The quarters saw a trip to Liverpool to play high-flying West Derby 2s. Andrew Barker gave North Stafford the lead, before the hosts equalized with 15 minutes remaining. With six minutes to go, Barker calmly converted a penalty stroke to retake the lead. West Derby pulled their keeper which backfired, as further goals from Rhys Owens and Chris Babb sealed a 4-1 win.
Surbiton Originals travelled to sunny Stoke for the semi-final, the first time the two clubs have met. Barker was again the key goalscorer with goals either side of a Surbiton equalizer. Jon Snape then added a third to spark jubilant celebrations and seal the 3-1 win and spot in the final against the University of Nottingham, where they hope to round off a superb season on a high.
