Roundup of the final set of senior fixtures before lockdown #2 ensues

The final set of fixtures before the return of lockdown saw a number of excellent results for the North Stafford teams, who maintained a very positive start to the season.

The Men's 1s recorded their second victory of the season with a 3-2 victory over Warwick 1s. A strong performance saw them lead 3-1, and despite missing opporunities to finish the game off and a late Warwick fightback, they held on to secure a valuable three points. After five games they now sit mid-table in sixth place with seven points.

The Ladies 1s had a thrilling 4-4 draw away at Bloxwich 1s. After six games they now sit in fourth place with 10 points, making an excellent start to the season following last year's promotion back to the Midlands leagues. In the only other Ladies game, the Ladies 4s lost 3-1 to Stafford 4s.

The Men's 2s long 18-match winning run came to a surprising end as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw away at a resilient Finchfield 3s. The hosts opened the scoring with an incisive breakaway goal. North Stafford piled on the pressure and equalised midway through the first half courtesy of an Andy Bastable penalty stroke. The second half saw the visitors remain on top, but profilagacy in front of goal and a lack of cutting edge meant that the 2s had to settle to a single point. They remain unbeaten with 13 points from a possible 15, but drop down to second behind Old Wulfrunians 1s on goal difference.

The Men's 3s secured an excellent victory in NW1, as they beat previous league leaders Lichfield 4s 4-1 at Clayton. The visitors had won their first four games and only conceded three goals, but the 3s brushed them aside with a fine performance which saw them rise to fifth in the table.

Frasier Edwards scored his first senior league goal as the Men's 4s secured a good point away at Leek 3s with a 1-1 draw. The point lifts them up to 10th in NW1 as they adjust to the higher standard following promotion, and in many respects they felt disappointed not to return home with all three points following a strong performance.

The Men's 5s retained their 100% record as they made it four wins out of four with a 4-3 win over Leek 6s at Clayton. The hosts held a comfortable 4-1 lead before Leek pulled back two late goals to create a close finish. The 5s now sit in second place behind Oswestry 1s who have also won all four of their games and scored 36 goals in the process.

The Men's 6s scored away at Wolverhampton 4s, but still remain in search of their first points of the season as they suffered a 5-1 defeat. Meanwhile North Stafford Lions won 5-0 v Leek Cobras, whilst the rest of the badgers played an excellent inter-club match at Clayton.

Fixtures are now cancelled for the next month, but we look forward to hockey hopefully returning in some form in the not too distant future.
